Performing and visual arts programme

At Platon School, every student’s learning journey is enriched by the vibrant world of performing and visual arts. As a vital expression of the human spirit, the arts play a central role in our human-centred pedagogy and daily school life.

From early years onwards, children explore visual arts, theatre and music through atelier-based learning that supports thinking, feeling and communication.

Guided by specialist teachers, students take part in performing arts programmes that span drama and dance, engaging in collaborative creative processes and performances throughout the year.

Dance examinations

Platon School offers students the opportunity to pursue internationally recognised dance qualification.

These include Classical Ballet examinations from the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD), in partnership with the British Council, and Modern Dance examinations from the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD).

Areas of specialisation

Students at Platon School step into music, theatre, dance and visual arts as rehearsal spaces for curiosity. From Early Years onwards, the arts are treated as core languages of expression, giving every child daily opportunities to explore ideas, emotions and identities.

Visual arts

From Early Years, children learn in a dedicated art studio shaped by the Reggio Emilia approach, where hands, mind, senses and intuition are at the centre of learning. Guided by a specialist arts teacher, they work with changing colours, textures and original materials, discovering that everyone can create beauty while building early relationships with peers and their environment.

Across all educational levels, artistic sensitivity is carefully nurtured through experiential encounters with great artworks and their creators, alongside regular practice in traditional and contemporary forms of expression that evolve with new technologies.

Visual arts become a rich language for thinking, relating to others and making sense of the world, closely connected to our wider culture of enquiry and creativity.

Theatre

Theatre at Platon School is where thoughts and emotions are shaped, challenged and transformed through play, discipline and creativity, as a practice that nurtures and “heals” the mind and emotions.

From the early years, children step into Greek myths and stories through movement and role-play, exploring human psychology and behaviour while building confidence, empathy and self-awareness.

Theatre remains part of the core curriculum up to Grade 4, while students of all ages have the opportunity to participate in and excel at ambitious productions from the Greek and international repertoire.

Through demanding rehearsals and ensemble work, students experience every stage of a full production in major Athenian venues. These high-standard performances cultivate discipline, resilience and the ability to deliver their best performance with presence and courage.

Music

Music within our community is a universal language that shapes everyday school life from Early Years onward. Through rich, playful encounters with sound and rhythm, children learn to listen attentively, express themselves with confidence, communicate creatively and experience harmony and collaboration within the group.

Using contemporary pre-music and music education approaches, learners first discover, love and trust their own primary instruments - voice and body.

Those who wish may further develop their skills on musical instruments of their choice and join our Choir, renowned for its refined performances and tributes to contemporary Greek composers who actively engage with and inspire our students.

Music

Dance

Across our school, dance is a specialised language of movement where music, body and emotion come together as one. Through Music-Kinaesthetic Education, children experience from an early age how rhythm, coordination and spatial awareness support their overall development.

Our Dance Academy welcomes pupils, adolescents and adults, offering programmes that balance joy and rigour. Under the artistic direction of highly qualified professionals, students build strong technical foundations in ballet, modern dance, jazz, tap, hip-hop and musical styles.

Across all levels, learners discover what it means to inhabit and “own” their bodies with control and freedom. Group work, choreography and stage experiences help them express ideas and feelings.
