Primary School

Across Primary School, students aged 6 - 12 (Grades 1 - 6) follow the Greek national curriculum within the IB framework - in Grades 1 - 5 this is enriched by the Primary Years Programme (PYP), while in Grade 6 it is strengthened through the Middle Years Programme (MYP).

These programmes provide a structured context for concept‑based enquiry, grounded in student‑centred learning, careful planning and community. This approach helps children turn knowledge into understanding, think deeply, act responsibly and connect their local culture with a wider global perspective.

Our Greek curriculum

Children in Primary School embark on a comprehensive learning journey that combines the curriculum of the Greek Ministry of Education with the International Baccalaureate approach. In Grades 1 - 5 this runs through the Primary Years Programme, while in Grade 6 it continues within the Middle Years Programme, helping children develop approaches to learning skills, explore big ideas and connect strong Greek roots with a global perspective.

Units of Enquiry

Exploring the world

Throughout our IB PYP, students explore concepts in authentic and connected ways as they investigate the environment and the natural world through enquiry. Traditional subjects are approached within concept-driven learning, allowing pupils to connect knowledge and engage with local and global contexts.
Learning is organised around six transdisciplinary themes:

  • Who we are
  • Where we are in place and time
  • How we express ourselves
  • How the world works
  • How we organize ourselves
  • Sharing the planet

Transdisciplinarity

Connecting subjects, skills and real life

Transdisciplinarity mirrors how children naturally learn, connecting ideas rather than separating knowledge. In this enquiry-driven environment, pupils “learn how to learn”, keep their curiosity alive, deepen understanding and nurture critical thinking and creativity.

They are encouraged to find their own solutions, develop self-awareness, manage their time effectively and feel at home in our school. Through this approach, they grow as confident learners with strong Greek roots, a global outlook and a genuine sense of belonging.

ALOHA Mental Arithmetic

Building agile minds through playful mental maths

ALOHA Mental Arithmetic becomes part of Platon School’s core Primary School programme from Grade 1, helping children build strong mathematical thinking in a playful, engaging way.

Using the Abacus and gradually learning to visualise it mentally, pupils boost concentration, memory, speed and mental calculation while activating both sides of the brain.

MYP transition

Empowering young minds for independence and responsibility

In Grade 6, students pursue the Greek Ministry of Education curriculum within the framework of the IB Middle Years Programme, easing the critical transition to Middle School.

We provide expert teachers, tailored programmes and supportive environments to guide students academically, socially and emotionally, ensuring they are fully prepared to continue their educational journey with confidence.

Our bilingual curriculum

Our bilingual curriculum

Students who embark on our Bilingual Programme in Primary School experience 15 hours per week of learning in English through our Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) approach, where subjects such as drama, art, ICT and PE are taught entirely in English by specialist native teachers. This immersive model goes beyond traditional language lessons, allowing children to use English as a natural tool for learning, thinking across the curriculum.

By engaging with content in both Greek and English, students develop strong bilingual proficiency whilst building subject knowledge and the confidence to navigate seamlessly between languages.

A typical day at school in our Primary School

Every day at Primary School is a balanced rhythm of learning, creativity and play. In a supportive environment, students move between lessons, enquiry projects, physical activity and outdoor time. Each moment is designed to engage their curiosity, develop skills and foster independence.
