How we learn
How we learn

Our learning approach

At Platon School, learning is a continuous journey from the early years to graduation, shaped by academic rigour, innovation and care. Students develop critical thinking, creativity, collaboration and resilience in a supportive environment that values wellbeing and personal growth. As the first school in Greece authorised for the full IB Continuum, we integrate the Greek curriculum with IB-informed teaching, combining strong cultural roots with global standards.

Students learn how to learn through personalised, experience-based approaches that include enquiry, project work, collaboration and reflective thinking. Supported by ISP’s Learning.First™ approach, expert IB educators, advanced labs and evolving methodologies, they grow into confident communicators, ethical leaders and open-minded global citizens.

Shaping citizens for a changing world

Platon School empowers students with the knowledge, skills and values to create a fairer, sustainable and thriving world.

Learning in action

At Platon School, students explore, question and collaborate through the IB continuum, ATL skills, and innovative teaching, growing as confident bilingual thinkers.

Approaches to Learning (ATLs)

Approaches to Learning (ATLs) helps students master the skills to “learn how to learn.” Through thinking, research, communication, collaboration and self-management, learners explore real-world challenges with curiosity and confidence.

They develop critical and creative thinking, information literacy, effective communication, teamwork and the ability to plan and organize.

ATLs nurtures independent, balanced, globally minded learners ready to apply knowledge with purpose and imagination.

Flipped Classroom

The Flipped Classroom is an innovative educational model that moves lesson delivery to home via videos, texts and interactive materials, letting students learn at their own pace.

Classroom time focuses on discussion, experiments, presentations and collaborative activities, fostering critical thinking, creativity, autonomy and deeper understanding.

This approach engages all learning styles, strengthens teacher-student interaction, encourages independent enquiry and makes learning active, personalized and meaningful for every child.

The IB continuum

The IB continuum shapes learners aged 3 to 18, blending the Greek curriculum with enquiry-led, internationally recognised teaching.  As the first Greek school authorised by the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) for the Primary Years Programme, Middle Years Programme and Diploma Programme, Platon School offers a curriculum fully aligned with global standards.

Through transdisciplinary units, collaborative projects, diverse learning spaces and family engagement, they acquire the knowledge, skills and values to thrive academically, socially and personally while contributing meaningfully to society.

At Platon School, learners think critically, solve complex problems and engage in rigorous IB programmes, becoming culturally aware and globally minded in a rapidly changing world.

ALOHA Mental Arithmetic

ALOHA Mental Arithmetic

ALOHA Mental Arithmetic is an internationally recognised programme that develops children’s cognitive abilities through structured mental calculation.

At Platon School, it is embedded in the core curriculum from age 4 and continues until age 13. Students begin with the Chinese abacus and gradually move to mental visualisation, activating both hemispheres of the brain.

Beyond mathematics, ALOHA promotes whole-brain development through game-based learning, strengthening focus, memory and imagination. Aligned with IB, Reggio Emilia and Forest School principles, it fosters flexible thinking and a positive approach to learning.

Where learning comes first

Most schools talk about what they teach. We focus on how your child learns. Through the Learning.First™ approach, students reflect on their progress, explore new approaches and make decisions that drive their growth.

Curiosity fuels our learning

The best learning happens when students are actively engaged. We ignite curiosity through hands-on projects and inquiry-based learning, making learning exciting, memorable and full of exploration.

Confidence drives lifelong learning

Our students trust in their abilities, build confidence and lead their way forward. This mindset helps them believe they can learn and achieve anything, fostering a love for lifelong learning.

The power of 'Good Struggles'

We believe great learning happens just beyond the comfort zone. That's why we create purposeful challenges, or 'good struggles', that help students stay motivated while they grow. Through these experiences, students build resilience, solve problems, and learn to keep going – even when it's hard.

Teachers as co-pilots

Learning here is a partnership. Teachers work alongside students as guides, helping them navigate choices, embrace good struggles, inspire those 'aha' moments of self-discovery and grow in confidence.

Learning that keeps getting better

We do not assume that good teaching automatically means good learning. Through ISP’s Learning Improvement Process (LIP), teachers and leaders look closely at what students are learning, where they are making progress and where something needs to change.

That means we keep learning from what happens in classrooms and use that evidence to improve what happens next. For your child, it means a school that does not stand still -  one that keeps asking how learning can be better.

Knowledge brings happiness.

Plato, who gave his name to our school, once said something important: “Knowledge brings happiness.” At Platon School, all members of our school community also believe that the reverse is true: When children are happy, they seek out and explore knowledge.
