The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) is designed for students aiming to excel academically, grow personally and engage globally. Students choose six subjects, three at Higher Level and three at Standard Level, while completing three core elements that foster creativity, perseverance and critical, global thinking.
Students choose one subject from each group:
Students who speak more than one language at mother‑tongue level can study a second main language instead of a standard language course. Those who prefer not to take Visual Arts may choose another subject that fits their interests and goals. When specific university requirements apply, students can also add a seventh subject and work towards a specialised diploma pathway.
Theory of Knowledge invites students to pause and ask - How do we know what we know? They explore how knowledge is created, shared and applied across different disciplines and cultures. Through discussions, real‑life cases and guided reflection, they learn to question assumptions, decode methods of enquiry and examine their own values and beliefs.
TOK nurtures critical, independent thinkers who can balance emotion and reason, take intellectual risks and consider multiple perspectives on real‑world issues. Assessment includes a 1,600‑word essay, based on prescribed titles from the IB organization and an oral presentation on a topic of their choice, showcasing their growth over the two‑year programme.
The Extended Essay is one of the most important academic challenges of the IB Diploma. Each student undertakes a 4,000‑word independent research project in one of their chosen subjects, designing a question that genuinely interests them and has global or theoretical significance. Guided by a supervisor and the EE Coordinator, they investigate their topic in depth, collect and interpret evidence and construct a well‑structured referenced argument. The process stretches over the two years, from selecting a topic in Year 1 to submitting the final essay in Year 2, giving them valuable preparation for university‑level study and research.
Creativity, Activity, Service balances academic commitment with meaningful, experiential learning beyond the classroom. All our IB students take part in creative pursuits, physical activities and community service or volunteering that reflect their interests and strengths. Through projects in areas such as environmental action, health campaigns, social support and the arts, they take on new roles and set personal goals. CAS helps students live the IB Learner Profile in practice, developing empathy, resilience, initiative and a strong sense of responsibility. Demanding yet deeply rewarding, the programme encourages them to turn values into action and to see themselves as active, caring citizens of the world.

Platon’s IB Diploma assessment model is both rigorous and transparent. Each of the six subjects is graded on a 1 - 7 scale, through a blend of external exams and internal assessments such as investigations, projects and oral exams. Most subjects combine 60-80% external assessment with 20-40% internal work, which is moderated by the IB to ensure global standards. Across the two years, students also complete the core: Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and CAS. TOK and EE together can add up to three bonus points, taking the maximum possible score to 45 points, with 24 points generally required to obtain the Diploma. Assessment is criterion‑related rather than “on a curve”, so learners are measured against clear, predefined expectations, giving families a reliable picture of progress and opening doors to universities in Greece and worldwide.
Through the IB Approaches to Learning and the Learner Profile, students grow as organised, resilient, independent young adults who can think clearly, communicate confidently and act with integrity.
They learn how to manage demanding workloads, juggle deadlines and look after their wellbeing, building real resilience and self‑management. In TOK, they question information, analyse different viewpoints and solve complex problems instead of simply memorising facts.
Through the EE, they become independent researchers, able to ask sharp questions, evaluate sources and write at an academic level. CAS projects and collaborative work strengthen teamwork, leadership and empathy.
Students continue their multilingual journey within a rigorous pre-university context, maintaining English as both their IB curriculum language and primary foreign language whilst further developing fluency in their chosen additional language - Spanish, French or German. This sustained multilingual approach reinforces the advanced linguistic competencies established through earlier years, ensuring students graduate as confident, articulate communicators equipped to thrive in international academic and professional environments.
Students explore the world through educational trips that broaden perspectives and inform future pathways. Diploma Year 1 learners visit university campuses across the Netherlands and Belgium, gaining insight into higher education options, whilst also experiencing culturally significant sites throughout Italy, including Rome, Florence, Siena and the Vatican. Diploma Year 2 students embark on road trips through the Côte d'Azur, Saint-Paul-de-Vence, Cannes, Monaco, Monte Carlo and Milan. Through the ISP International Learning Opportunities (ILOS) Change Makers programme, students engage in interdisciplinary projects combining a hands-on business experience with the design and production of clothing and jewellery from recyclable materials.
In IB1, each student meets individually with the Academic Advisor to explore interests, strengths and possible career directions. Together, they shape a realistic strategy for life after school, with families invited into the conversation through joint meetings that keep everyone aligned and informed. Many students also complete the Ariston Career Orientation Test, which highlights personality, skills and preferred fields, giving an extra layer of insight.
In IB2, guidance becomes even more focused. Students receive personalised support to shortlist universities in Greece and abroad, understand different systems and timelines and complete every step of the application process for their chosen country and subject. From first ideas to final applications, counselling helps them move from aspiration to action with clarity and confidence.
Students graduate with both an equivalent of the Greek national qualification and the IB Diploma, gaining access to leading universities worldwide and top institutions in Greece.
