Brand new High School building
From the 2026 - 2027 school year, we will open a new High School building designed for both the Greek High School and IB pathways.
Certified Eco-School
In 2026, our school was officially awarded Eco-Schools certification, joining one of the largest global networks of sustainable schools.
In September 1969, we opened our first Early Years and Primary School in a beautifully restored neoclassical home in the Fáros area of Psychiko. Families were drawn to a warm, close-knit community where children felt known, safe and inspired to learn.
That first campus set the tone for everything that followed - high academic expectations, strong values and a child‑centred approach that continues to shape every learning experience today.
By 1977, Platon School’s distinctive role in Greek education was increasingly recognised. That year, we expanded with the opening of the Middle School, enabling students to continue their learning into early adolescence while remaining within the same supportive school community.
In 1979, growing trust from Athenian families led Platon School to open its own campus on the green hillside of Stavros. Surrounded by nature, students started to experience learning that extended far beyond classroom walls.
Always guided by our care for children and committed to sharing knowledge, values and essential life skills, we established Platon School’s Greek High School in 1981.
The continued success of our students in higher education and beyond has established us among Greece’s leading educational institutions, a tradition we continue to uphold today.
In 2011, our school became the first in Greece to be authorised for the complete International Baccalaureate continuum, combining the Greek curriculum with IB best practices from Early Years through to graduation. This comprehensive approach provides students with a coherent, internationally minded learning journey that builds critical thinking, enquiry skills and strong academic foundations within the national context.
In 2015, Platon School marked a national first: students sat the IB Middle Years Programme eAssessment, a rigorous, computer‑based international examination in English. Their success earned them the MYP Certificate, an internationally recognised qualification valued by top universities.
In 2017, Platon School’s innovative spirit was recognised across Greece. We earned a Gold Award at the Education Business Awards for Think4Good, a student initiative that put social responsibility into action. A second award in the Digital Education category celebrated interactive iBooks created by our faculty.
In May 2018, we welcomed IB World Schools and international experts to our campus for the symposium “Education Forward - From Middle School to High School. New Paths, New Possibilities.”
With keynote speaker Adrian Kearney, Director of IB World Schools, the event explored future-ready learning and transitions.
In 2023, Platon School’s commitment to meaningful learning environments was recognised with a Silver Award at the Interiors Awards, in the Education category.
The renovation of the school building introduced flexible classrooms, light‑filled common areas and dedicated spaces for collaboration and creativity now support the way students learn today. Every corner is designed to make children feel welcome, focused and inspired.
This was a transformative milestone for Platon school as it became a proud member of International Schools Partnership - ISP.
Becoming an ISP school was Platon School's gateway to a dynamic global network of world-class schools. It provided access to unparalleled opportunities for our students to collaborate across continents, engage in innovative learning projects and develop the skills to thrive as true global citizens. The world just became our classroom.
From 2026, our older students will move into a new High School building, designed to inspire learning and support a modern, student-centred education with both Greek and international perspectives. Our focus remains on empowering students today while preparing them for the future they deserve.
Evaluated by the Hellenic Society for the Protection of Nature since 2023, our school earned official Eco-Schools certification in 2026. Through this network, students actively engage in environmental initiatives and develop a responsible approach to sustainability - through hands-on learning, community action and a shared commitment to the planet.

An ISP School
Platon School is part of International Schools Partnership, offering students transformative and skill-building learning opportunities empowered by a global network.
Active since 1969, Platon School integrates International Baccalaureate, Reggio Emilia and Forest School philosophies to nurture curiosity, independence and critical thinking. From Primary School, we combine national and international accreditation with enquiry-led learning, turning classrooms into laboratories of thought where feedback, reflection and collaboration make progress visible and personal. Robotics, coding and science turn ideas into action, while IB service and action programmes connect learning to real‑world impact.
Platon School offers the full IB continuum, with the Primary Years, Middle Years and Diploma Programmes integrated across the school. As a fully authorised IB school, we maintain high global standards in curriculum design, teaching quality and student outcomes, with continuous review to stay aligned with IB best practice and innovation. Students follow a coherent, internationally benchmarked pathway that combines the Greek national curriculum with IB teaching practices and leads to dual recognition - the Greek national qualification and the IB Diploma.
Through the Diploma Programme’s rigorous courses, Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge and Creativity, Activity, Service, they deepen independent research skills, critical thinking and global awareness.
Children who embark on our bilingual programme experience English naturally as their mother tongue across subjects, projects and daily routines. This constant immersion deepens comprehension, builds a rich vocabulary and sharpens communication skills. Platon School combines the academic precision of the Greek tradition with the global reach of the International Baccalaureate, meaning students retain strong cultural roots while developing genuine global awareness.Instruction in Greek and English, combined with international collaboration through ISP, develops linguistic versatility and intercultural confidence.
Beyond Greek and English, students can choose additional foreign languages including French, German and Spanish, widening their horizons and deepening their understanding of other cultures.
Students develop essential life skills through hands-on projects, collaborative workshops and social-emotional programmes. They're encouraged to take initiatives and make a positive difference in their learning, relationships and the wider community. Within the IB continuum, the Approaches to Learning (ATLs) framework supports students' growth. They develop strong thinking, research, communication, collaboration and self‑management skills. The IB Learner Profile shapes who they become: enquirers, thinkers, communicators and principled, open‑minded, caring global citizens.
The ISP Life Competencies wheel, supported by Camtree, part of Hughes Hall at the University of Cambridge, further strengthens their cognitive, global, self‑leadership, interpersonal and digital capabilities.
Students step into a vibrant world of sports, arts, design, music and science through our School Plus Programme, guided by expert teachers and coaches.Through ISP's ILOS initiatives, exchanges and Model United Nations, they take part in national and international events, connect across borders and cultures and grow as confident, values‑driven leaders within a global community. Students also take on real leadership opportunities as project leads, event organisers and student representatives, giving them voice, responsibility and the chance to turn ideas into meaningful action.
Platon School’s specialist academies offer structured pathways in basketball, swimming, dance and karate. Open to both enrolled students and external participants, learners from beginners to advanced levels develop physical skills, confidence and teamwork. Children experience sports in ways that nurture their overall personal development, with Platon Basket BC achieving strong results in Greek championships and athletes progressing to national teams, successfully balancing academics and athletics. Students train in core techniques, tactical awareness, rhythm, stage performance, kata, strokes and creative expression. Each academy integrates age-appropriate progression, performance opportunities and life skills, helping students grow through sport and the arts.
As an Eco‑School, our community engages in sustainability projects that students help design and run, from environmental campaigns to waste reduction and awareness initiatives. Within the International Baccalaureate framework, the Middle Years Programme Service as Action and the Diploma Programme Creativity, Activity, Service connect learning to meaningful service.
Learners explore how their choices affect others, develop empathy and practise leadership. Step by step, they see how their ideas and actions can make their school, city and planet better, building a lasting sense of responsibility and purpose.
Performing and visual arts sit at the heart of school life. From Early Years onwards, children explore visual arts, theatre and music through creative, hands-on learning that nurtures thinking, feeling and communication. Guided by specialist teachers, students engage in rich programmes in drama, dance and music, collaborating on ambitious productions and creative projects that build technique, imagination and self-belief. In this vibrant arts culture, every learner finds their voice and discovers new ways to understand and shape the world around them.
Certified IB educators design engaging lessons that both challenge and support learners, while one‑to‑one mentoring and academic advising help students understand their strengths and set goals. Learners receive dedicated guidance to help them identify the pathway that best fits their ambitions.
Social‑emotional learning, mindfulness and pastoral care are woven into everyday life, ensuring that wellbeing sits alongside academic rigour. In this caring, inclusive environment, each child is seen, heard and equipped with the confidence to move forward at every stage of their journey.
Our campus is designed as a living learning environment. Light‑filled classrooms, fully equipped science and robotics labs, IT suites and creative studios sit alongside a spacious bilingual library, an on‑site planetarium and observatory and flexible amphitheatre plazas. Together, these spaces support interdisciplinary projects where ideas move easily from theory to practice.
